The Beeswax Co.
About The Beeswax Wrap Co.:
The Beeswax Wrap Co. Was founded by Carly and Fran, two English women who, since 2017, try to live a plastic-free life. They started this lifestyle out of worry about the effects of harmful chemicals in plastic wrappers on the health of their family members. They also found out about the detrimental effects of plastic on the environment.
In their search for alternatives to plastic, they missed one product specifically: an alternative to plastic cling film and aluminum foil. That’s how they came to the idea of making their own food wraps using bee’s wax. When they tried these out, their food turned out to stay way fresher than when they would have used the plastic film! They felt the need to share this and that’s how The Beeswax Wrap Co. got created.
The food wraps are still produced by hand in Stroud Gloucestershire, England. They are made from locally sourced bee’s wax, organic jojoba oil, natural pine resin and organic GOTS certified cotton. These substances are naturally anti-septic, which means that they keep out bacteria from your food. Adding to that, the organic cotton lets your food breath, something you will find out when you cover a piece of cheese with the food wrap. The cheese will turn out to be way less sweaty than if you were to use normal cling film or aluminum foil! Recently, a vegan alternative to the bee’s wax wraps has been made available, which uses a plant-based alternative to the bee’s wax.
Besides reducing plastic- and food waste, The Beeswax Wrap Co. is also promoting other good causes. They recently got certified as an official ‘B-Corporation’, which means that the company lives up to high standards of public transparency, social accountability and balancing profit and impact.
Fun fact: Carly and Fran have put all kinds of tutorials on their website. They teach you how to use the food wraps in inventive ways, like the replacement of a plastic piping bag, and how to take care of your food wraps so that you can use them even longer!
