How do soaps work against viruses and bacteria?

Cold process soap bars, such as we make at SOLIDU, have a high pH value. Therefore, they are naturally antibacterial: bacteria cannot reproduce at a pH above 9.

The best way to prevent virus transmission is to wash your hands. After washing with a bar of soap, the pH of the hands will be significantly higher. This will disrupt the outer fatty acid layer of the virus causing it to dissolve, disintegrate and consequently wash away.

It is recommended to wash your hands often and for at least 20 seconds with soap and water. Washing your hands properly removes dirt, viruses and bacteria to prevent them from spreading to other people and objects. You can use hand sanitizer gel if soap and water are not available, although soap is preferred and a better option.
