Vegan
The Vegan Society's Vegan Trademark: no animal-derived ingredients and no animal testing, checked per product.
- No animal ingredients, by-products or derivatives
- No animal testing of the product or its ingredients
- No GMOs made with animal genes or animal substances
- Not every product we call vegan carries this logo: check the pack
- Says nothing about the environment or how gentle it is on skin
A clear line, mostly checked on paper
A product either qualifies or it doesn't, and that is easy to understand. Checks are mainly based on documents from the brand and its suppliers, not on site visits or lab tests.
How Vegan tests
Brands register each product with The Vegan Society and submit details of every ingredient and how it is made. The Society checks the raw materials against its own database and only looks further when something is unclear; site visits are possible but not standard. Registration is reviewed every year through a paper audit, in which the brand confirms nothing has changed.

We read the label's own standard and criteria, check them against at least one independent source and write down what the label does not cover. Every page names its researcher and the date we last reviewed it.
