The washable diaper
To start, it is useful to know exactly how a washable diaper works. The new diapers from Cheeky Wipes work with a cover that you pull over a washable diaper. These are waterproof, so the risk of leaks is as small as possible. Moreover, they can be adjusted in multiple ways, ensuring that both the diaper and the cover grow with your baby.
The washable diaper itself is made of 80% bamboo and 20% pico terry cloth. This combination creates a soft fabric for your baby's skin. You then place a washable insert into the washable diaper to absorb all the moisture. Is your baby a heavy wetter? Then you can also use a large insert and fold it double, so you don't have to change as often. You can also place a liner on top of the insert. This is to catch all the poop, so you don't have to replace the insert with every change, but sometimes it is enough to just throw away the liner.

The liner
The bamboo liners are single-use, but fortunately completely compostable and biodegradable. Just make sure not to flush the liners down the toilet, or you will lose your saved euros to the plumber! By using the liners, you keep the washable diaper clean for longer and you don't have to change as often.
The insert
All sorts of different inserts are available for washable diapers. Cheeky Wipes has soft fleece inserts in two sizes that fit perfectly into the washable diaper of the same brand. Prefer a bamboo insert? Then Bambooty has a long insert with three layers of heavy bamboo, so it absorbs and retains extra moisture.
The cover
Around the washable diaper is a cover with a waterproof lining to protect everything and catch any potential leaks. The cover can also be adjusted in various ways. For instance, you will likely have enough with about three pieces in the first year, regardless of how fast your baby grows. Moreover, you will never be stuck with excess diapers that no longer fit.

The costs
To start with washable diapers, you spend a bit more money in the beginning to purchase everything. But once you have everything at home, you are set for a long time! Milieu Centraal has even calculated that you can likely save between 200 and 700 euros per child by using washable diapers, water costs included. The Cheeky Wipes diapers are also of such high quality that they can last for several years. So a second or third child can easily use the diapers from the first.
On the go
When you are out and about with the children, you don't want to unexpectedly be stuck with a dirty diaper that you cannot throw away. Wetbags are a suitable solution for this. These bags are waterproof and also do not let any odors through. This makes it easy to take dirty diapers home to toss in the wash. By using liners, you make it even easier for yourself, because then there is only moisture in the dirty diaper and insert!
