Our top tips for a healthy and well-cared-for baby

Your baby's sensitive skin requires mild and gentle care to prevent irritations like nappy rash or eczema. At Grace is Green, we would like to share some useful tips that can help you keep your baby healthy and well-cared-for.

4 Tips: Gently Washing and Bathing Your Baby

  1. Use mild water and fragrance-free products: Wash your baby with water and, if necessary, use a mild, fragrance-free baby shampoo or bath oil. Make sure the water is 37°C – test this with your elbow, wrist, or use a bath thermometer to prevent your baby's skin from getting burned.
  2. Support the head: Ensure your baby's head is well-supported during bathing, and avoid water and soap coming into contact with the eyes.
  3. Baby oil for the scalp: Are you dealing with a dry scalp or cradle cap? Apply baby oil and let it soak in overnight. Gently remove the flakes with a comb and wash the scalp with a mild baby shampoo.
  4. Let your baby play: A bath is not just functional; it also stimulates your baby's senses. Let your little one enjoy the water and splashing around for a pleasant bathing experience.

Help for Dry and Irritated Baby Skin

  1. Moisturize with baby cream: For dry skin or a tendency towards eczema, it is important to moisturize your baby daily with a good, fragrance-free baby cream.
  2. Baby massage with oil: Add a little baby oil to the bath water or give your baby a massage to keep the skin supple and hydrated.
  3. Water-repellent baby ointment: For dry skin around the mouth caused by a pacifier, or for red spots, a water-repellent ointment without zinc can help. This forms a protective layer against moisture.

Preventing Nappy Rash

  1. Wash with water and mild products: When changing diapers, it is important to wash the diaper area thoroughly with water and, if necessary, a mild baby shampoo. Don't forget to clean all skin folds to prevent irritation.
  2. Use wet wipes for on the go: Don't have water nearby? Choose wet wipes with an allergy label and without unnecessary chemicals, such as products from Derma.
  3. Dry the skin thoroughly: Let your baby's skin air-dry or use a hairdryer on the lowest setting. This can help keep the skin dry and prevent red spots.
  4. Ointment against redness: Should the skin become red, always keep a water-repellent baby ointment in your diaper bag. Apply the ointment to clean and dry skin to prevent further irritation.

Tips for a Safe Bath

Finally, we would like to talk about bathing! Many babies love taking a bath, but safety is naturally extremely important. Follow these tips for a safe and enjoyable bath time:

  1. Always under supervision: Never leave your baby in the bath unattended, even if they can sit up independently.
  2. Water at the right temperature: Always check that the water is no warmer than 37°C using a thermometer or your elbow.
  3. Everything within reach: Make sure you have everything you need, such as shampoo, bath oil, and a towel, within reach to keep your baby safe in the bath.
  4. Prevent slipping: Place an anti-slip mat in and next to the bath to prevent you or your baby from slipping on the wet floor.
  5. Bathing while seated: Ensure your baby always remains seated in the bath to prevent them from slipping and hurting themselves.
  6. Bathing together: Consider getting into the bath with your baby for extra safety and security. This makes bathing a pleasant experience for you both.

With these tips, you can keep your baby healthy and well-cared-for, while you both enjoy safe, caring moments together.
