The Christmas dinner is often an evening full of coziness, food, and even more food. While the various courses used to be filled with different types of meat and fish, the vegetarian dinner has increasingly made its way to the table in recent years. But how do you create a flavorful, varied, and vegetarian Christmas dinner? I will explain it to you!
Amuse-bouche
A small bite to satisfy the worst of your hunger. The Mushroom Crostini is perfect for this; the crispy bread in combination with delicious mushrooms is a hit with almost everyone!
Not a fan of mushrooms? Then the fig and blue cheese tartlets are a tasty way to start the Christmas dinner. Moreover, they only require five (!) ingredients, so you'll have the tartlets on the table in no time.
Appetizer
A vegetarian appetizer often consists of different types of vegetables combined. For example, you can make a carpaccio with thinly sliced vegetables. A vegetarian classic is beetroot carpaccio with goat cheese, but it can also be made with, for instance, poached pears for a somewhat sweeter appetizer.
If you prefer to serve your guests a warm appetizer, you can of course always go for a nice soup. For example, make a winter mustard soup, or keep it classic with a roasted bell pepper soup!
Main course
After that, it's time for the main event: the main course! There are various versions of Christmas classics that are very flavorful when served as a vegetarian dish. For example, this vegetarian boeuf bourguignon is made with jackfruit. This is a fruit that, when cooked for a long time, takes on the fibrous texture of meat and easily absorbs flavor. Serve it with mashed potatoes or celeriac puree, add some vegetables, and you're done!
You don't have to miss out on beef wellington for a vegetarian Christmas dinner either; the veggie wellington is just as good! Filled with sweet potato, goat cheese, and cherry tomatoes, this wellington has a wonderfully soft flavor that will also be loved by the children!
Dessert
For those who aren't full from the previous dishes yet, there's still a dessert ready! While some prefer a cheese board, others would rather serve a sweet dessert. Are you finished with all the elaborate plating? Then go for an eton mess, where it doesn't matter much what it looks like, because the taste remains fantastic!
Do you still have energy for a grand finale and can't actually choose between different dishes? Then a grand dessert shouldn't be missing from your menu! It consists of three small dishes served at the same time. This allows you to linger at the table with your guests for a long time while enjoying some sweets.
